Returning to play
We are delighted to restart our play sessions as of week commencing 21 September. There will be some changes to make sure that we can do this safely. You will also need to book sessions and pay in advance and there will be a limited number of those who can attend a session. For more information, see our play sessions page.
For now, toy loaning is operating on Tuesday and Friday afternoons only.
We’ve been very busy during lockdown…
Due to Covid-19, unfortunately the Walthamstow Garden Party had to be cancelled. Instead, as part of Walthamstow Garden Party In The Air, the Toy Library and Scribble and Smudge have been encouraging people to make their own Toychimes and we delivered 500 craft packs to families in the area. We’re very grateful to the Barbican Centre, London Borough of Waltham Forest and Arts Council England for supporting us, as well as Stow Brothers for printing the instructions and front covers and Kin Design for the animations.
Since May, we’ve been hosting free virtual coffee mornings with guest speakers and organisations. We’ve covered nutrition, fitness and mental wellbeing, and guest organisations include HENRY, Bongalong, Healthworks, Kinder Nutrition, Chit-Chat Pitter-Pat, Little Veggie Eats and Waltham Forest Cloth Nappy Library.
We know that lockdown has been particularly challenging for lots of families. With the funding of the City Bridge Trust, we’ve been able to offer one-to-one counselling sessions for Toy Library members. The City Bridge Trust have also helped us to run breastfeeding support sessions and to give away 150 Puppet Theatre Project boxes to families.
We have delivered 100 craft packs to families in need, thanks to support from the Barbican and Arts Council England.
With the support of the London Borough of Waltham Forest, we have been able to run a mobile toy library and Tesco Bags of Help have also enabled us to provide further breastfeeding support. Thanks to Magic Little Grant who have enabled safe physical play.
