Happy New Year!

As the dust settles
after the holiday season, and we survey our dwindled bank balances and expanded
middles, the Toy Library is already primed for a new year of fun!

The last few months
of 2012 were action packed, with the biggest change our new manager,
Helen Crockford – tireless ex-committee chair and more recently TL playworker –
who took over from Carla Cornelius in November. I’m sure you’ll join everyone
on the committee in thanking Carla for her time steering the Toy Library from
strength to strength (and wishing her well in her new job) and welcoming Helen
to the post.

We also have a new
committee, as of October, with a new chair – Terri Harris, who obviously
decided having toddler twins and a bouncy three-year-old just wasn’t enough of
a challenge! Our new treasurer is Paul Brown, and secretary Nicky Poulton. Mel
Coles-Gubb and Bal Sanghera will be fundraisers, and Sarah Herbert is in charge
of the website and newsletters. We’re hoping Jane Griffiths will be our press
officer!

We’d also like to
welcome back Felastin Warsame as a volunteer – I’m sure many of you will
remember her, and her lovely smiling face!

So, what’s coming
up? Well…

Half-term

Helen and the team
have put together a great programme:

Monday 18 February: seriously
messy play – bring old
or spare clothes!
Tuesday 19 February,
morning: cooking
Tuesday 19 February,
afternoon: baby sensory
Wednesday 20
February: Scribble and Smudge – monster ball
Thursday 21 February:
Harriet from Sing along Songs (she's apparently amazing!)
Friday 22 February: dinosaur
adventure

These special sessions will cost £4 per child,
but we have five concessionary places for families on low income.

(Outside holidays, the first Thursday of month will now be a
‘fun with food’ session.)

Sábado!

The last Saturday of every month is Spanish
Saturday. Open to all, the 10-til 12-sessions will see Spanish spoken by all
volunteers and lots of members. The first one in 2012 will be on 26
January.

Yoga

Sam is once again running mother and baby yoga
sessions at the Toy Library, on Mondays 1 to 2pm on 7, 14, 21 and 28 January,
and 4 and 11 February.

The six-week session costs £48 (though she owes
last term’s yogis a free session).

For details, contact Sam on 07783 658 883.

Touchy feely

Do you have any unwanted keys, ceramic tiles, or
other suitable objects for heuristic play? If so, could you bring them along to
the Toy Library? Such sensory stimulants are great for babies…

Christmas

Thank you to all that came to our three
Christmas parties. They all went brilliantly, and we had some lovely feedback.
And what’s more, they raised over £400 for the Toy Library.

And a HUGE THANK YOU to Natural Voices, who raised a massive £380 for us on 9
December at their Xmas concert. Brilliant!
